This course addresses Christian worship principles for pastors and worship leaders with an emphasis on understanding the historic structures and current styles of worship that reflect the unchanging truths of the Gospel within varied cultural contexts.
We will analyze the ways in which the grace that pervades Scripture and culminates in Christ affects the integration of worship and mission in the local church across many traditions.
As we learn how faithful churches have always been careful to “re-present” the Gospel in their worship patterns, we will move past insistence on the preferences that cause our “worship wars” and discover that just as sermons present the gospel in words, and sacraments present the gospel in symbols, so also our worship is intended to present the gospel in the historic (but contextually varied) pattern of adoration, confession, thanksgiving, instruction that reflects the specific mission of every body of believers in its individual context.
